A Closer Look at Cockrill Elementary with Principal Casey W. Campbell

Speaker Friday, May 3, 2024

The Green Hills Rotary Club is pleased to have Casey W. Campbell, Principal of Cockrill Elementary School, as our guest speaker for the upcoming meeting on Wednesday, April 12th at 7:15 AM.

During his presentation, Campbell will provide an overview of Cockrill Elementary, a school serving a historically working-class neighborhood that has been experiencing gentrification in recent years. He will discuss the impacts of this demographic shift on the school and its students.

Campbell will also explore how community organizations can assist Cockrill Elementary and its families during this period of change. Partnering with local groups may help ease the transition for students.

Additionally, Campbell plans to touch on the broader impact of school choice policies and gentrification trends on urban schools like Cockrill. With 20 years of experience in education, including 16 years with Metro Nashville Public Schools, Campbell can offer valuable insights from working at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Campbell’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s in Special Education, and a Doctorate in Assessment, Learning, and School Improvement. His diverse expertise will allow for a well-rounded discussion.

This meeting offers Rotary members the chance to learn more about the opportunities and challenges facing an elementary school navigating demographic shifts directly from its principal. Campbell will leave time for audience questions as well.

We encourage all members to attend this meeting with Principal Casey W. Campbell. It’s a chance to better understand how we can support neighborhood schools like Cockrill Elementary during times of transition.
