Behind the League: A Conversation with Titans Executive Adolpho Birch III

Speaker Friday, April 11, 2025

From behind-the-scenes negotiations in the National Football League to civic engagement here in Nashville, Adolpho Birch III’s journey reflects the changing face of leadership in sports and society. His unique perspective—shaped by years in league policy and rooted in a legacy of public service—offers insights into how sports organizations manage complex challenges, influence communities, and evolve with the times. For anyone interested in leadership, legacy, or the growing civic role of professional teams, Birch brings a thoughtful and timely perspective.

Join the Green Hills Rotary Club at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Boy Scout Service Center to hear from Adolpho Birch III, Senior Vice President and Chief External and League Affairs Officer for the Tennessee Titans.

A Nashville native, Birch returned to his hometown in 2020 after more than two decades at the NFL’s headquarters in New York. In his role with the Titans, he oversees league and legal affairs, government relations, DEI initiatives, community impact, and the Titans Foundation. He plays a central role in the development of the new Nissan Stadium and the revitalization of Nashville’s East Bank.

Birch earned his undergraduate degree in government from Harvard University and his law degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was a Patricia Roberts Harris Scholar and editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. His professional journey includes advising NFL commissioners Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell, shaping player engagement initiatives, and advancing key legislative priorities on issues ranging from concussion prevention to broadcast policy.

He also continues his family’s remarkable legacy of public service. His father, Adolpho A. Birch, Jr., served as the first African American Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Today, Birch sits on numerous boards, including the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust, the Sports Lawyers Association, the Nashville Ballet, and the Tennessee Access to Justice Commission.

This event offers a rare opportunity to hear firsthand how sports, law, leadership, and community come together at the highest levels of the game.
