Beyond the Pews: The True Impact of Catholic Charities
Many believe Catholic Charities is a small, church-funded volunteer group, but the reality is far different. As Middle Tennessee’s largest social services agency, Catholic Charities serves 25,000 individuals annually through a network of eight locations. With only 5% of its funding from the diocese, the organization relies on partnerships with state and federal agencies to provide emergency assistance, emotional support, and employment services. From struggling families to refugees, from crisis intervention to long-term empowerment, Catholic Charities plays a critical role in building self-reliance and strengthening communities.
Join us at the Green Hills Rotary Club on March 14, 2025, at 7:15 AM at the Boy Scout Service Center on Hillsboro Road to hear from Judy Komisky Orr, LMSW, CEO of Nashville Catholic Charities.
Orr joined Catholic Charities as executive director in May 2019 and has since led the organization in expanding its reach and impact. She previously served as vice president for mission-based services at Alive Hospice and as assistant vice chancellor for creative services at Vanderbilt University. Before transitioning into nonprofit leadership, Orr spent decades in marketing and communications, including 10 years at Ingram Book Company and 20 years at Vanderbilt University.
In 2014, she shifted her focus to social work, earning her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee College of Social Work. A Nashville native, Orr also holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Vanderbilt University. Her extensive experience across corporate, academic, and nonprofit environments provides her with a unique perspective on serving neighbors in need. Notably, Catholic Charities’ workforce includes a significant proportion of non-Catholics, reinforcing its mission of serving all people, regardless of faith.
Come learn about one of Middle Tennessee’s most impactful organizations and its mission to serve and empower those in need.
