Justin Shadley and Emily Mitchell –Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve is tasked with ensuring full employment and ensuring inflation is within acceptable limits. It also shares regulatory authority over bank regulations with other federal entities. This regulatory oversight can affect the solvency of banks. Come and learn how much of this process works from the Federal Reserve itself.

Justin Shadley
Business Analyst II, Regional Economic Information Network

Justin Shadley is an analyst in the Nashville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. As analyst for the Branch, Justin helps gather pertinent regional economic information from Tennessee businesses and supports efforts to inform Fed policy making. He joined the Atlanta Fed in 2021, after completing his studies in Salt Lake City, Utah. Justin previously served as a research assistant for the Dean of the Gore School of Business and head economics tutor during his time at Westminster College where he was involved in student government, Division II athletics, and multiple student run organizations. He graduated with a degree in economics and political science. He continues to be an active alumni mentor and member of Delta Mu Delta, the international business honor society.

Emily Mitchell 
Director, Regional Economic Information Network  

Emily Mitchell is a director in the Nashville branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In this capacity, she supports the monetary policy process by gathering and synthesizing insights from Tennessee business and community leaders to provide real-time intelligence about regional economic conditions. Mitchell joined the Atlanta Fed’s as part of the community and economic development team in 2011 and worked in several positions of increasing managerial responsibilities on that team. Mitchell has a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Virginia Tech. Her volunteer roles in the community have included work in nonprofit capacity building, including with the United Way of Metro Nashville and Metro Nashville Social Services.
