Progress sometimes looks different depending on who is measuring it. This week, we will hear how the Urban League of Middle Tennessee assesses progress in our region through its inaugural State of Black Middle Tennessee report. Using an Equality Index to examine economics, education, health, social justice, and civic engagement, the report provides a unique lens on our community’s strengths and challenges. Come discover how they measure progress, and consider what actions—if any—their findings suggest for the future of Middle Tennessee.
Clifton Harris, President and CEO of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee, will present the findings. With nearly twenty years of experience in the non-profit sector, Mr. Harris previously served as Executive Director of Nashville’s Homelessness Commission. Under his leadership, the Urban League serves nine counties in Middle Tennessee, launching programs to enhance workforce development, support small businesses, empower youth, and advocate for economic dignity. He is dedicated to helping underserved communities achieve social parity by securing opportunities and partnerships that invest resources into disenfranchised groups.
